Lesson One
Day One, Art Start
1. Tombs of Hafez in Shiraz, Iran (1452) Andre Godard2. Blue Mosque of Mazar-e Sharif (1481) Ahmed Sanjay
3. Read "Arts & Activities Print: Respond & Connect Details from the ceiling of the Tomb of Hafez in Shiraz, Iran" by Dick Davis
4. Reflection Questions "Have you ever heard of the term Islam or Islamic? Do you know what those terms mean? Why do people use Moroccan Tiles? What are their reasons for their popularity not declining over the centuries? Where were these mosaics displayed? What first stands out when you look at this object? How are they used today?"
Lesson Activities:
1. Choose a 5" by 5" Square Cardstock2. Separate the square cardstock using a line (diagonal, horizontal, vertical) into four parts
3. Draw Three Preliminary Sketches of Tile Design

Day Two, Art Start
1. Retrieve 5" by 5" Square Cardstock
3. Mural- is a large painting or artwork on a wall. How large do you think our mural will be? What are some ways we can make our collaborative piece look like an original work of art? What do you like and dislike about these tile designs? What would help make these tile designs better?"
Lesson Activities:
1. Choose Best Tile Design out of Three Preliminary Sketches
2. Use pencil to lightly transfer tile design onto ceramic tile
3. Outline final pencil drawing three times before painting ceramic tile
Day Three, Art Start
1. Retrieve Ceramic Tile from assigned self
2. Set Up Studio Area (paint brushes, water bucket, tempera paint)
Lesson Activities:
1. Finish outlining pencil drawing three times before painting ceramic tile
2. Use complimentary colors (purple, gold) to color ceramic tile
3. Add value (light purple, dark purple; light yellow, dark yellow) for depth in ceramic tile
4. Use ceramic glaze to cover ceramic tile in a clear, protective coat
