Lesson One
Day One, Art Start

3. Reflective Discussion "Alma Thomas was the first student to graduate from Howard University with a degree in art. She was known around the world for her vibrant colored abstractions made after she turned 60 years old. Thomas's work Resurrection (1966) is the first painting made by an African American women to hang in the public spaces of the White House as part of a permanent collection."
Lesson Activities
1. Choose One 9" by 9" White Paper2. Trace Heart Template lightly with a pencil in center of the paper
3. Outline & Trace over the heart template with Sharpie Marker

Day Two, Art Start
1. Retrieve Heart Mosaic for Assigned Table
2. African American Artists Poster The Eclipse (1970) Alma Woodsey Thomas
3. Abstract- to distort or exaggerate a person, place, or thing with no clear depiction. Famous Artist Quote "The use of color in my paintings is of paramount importance to me. 2. Use warm color squares (red orange yellow) to fill in the negative space
3. Use scissors to cut off extra paper around the 9" by 9" White Paper
2. Set Up Studio Area (paper squares, glue sticks, scissors)
2. Use warm/cool colors (red orange yellow; green blue purple) to fill any white space
3. Cover Heart Mosaic in a clear protective coating of Mod Podge
