Dream Career Drawings

Learning Targets

I can...
  • Create an original Dream Career Drawing using photomontage techniques learned in class
  • Use neutral colors (black, white, grey), line types (horizontal, vertical, diagonal), and shape variation (organic, geometric) inspired by Dutch Painter (1632-1675) Johannes Vermeer
  • Understand drawing techniques (hatching, smudging, shading) and design principles (balance, proportion, movement) based on Baroque Paintings
  • Define Career (jobs held, earned titles, and accomplished work over a long period of time)

Lesson One
Day One, Art Start

1. The Astronomer (1668) Johannes Vermeer

3. Discussion Questions "Do you know what it is like to have this career? What are the best ways to prepare your self for the job? What can you do with this degree? How can you start to prepare for college? Do you enjoy or are you good at it? Have you ever considered these occupations? What can you do and what should you do to be ready to study art at the next level? What are our responsibilities? How do students benefit from a visual arts education? What 21st century skills do you learn from the art room? What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? What is a career? How much money could you make per year with this job? What are some areas you could major in to be prepared for this job? What would you need to study? What path will you take? What do you want to be when you grow up?"

What activities would you miss the most if you could no longer do them? Do you prefer spending time indoors or outdoors? Are you a leader or a follower? Do you prefer to cooperate or compete with others? Are you a thinker who focuses on ideas or are you a doer who takes action? Are you a creative and artistic person or do you thrive with structure and routine? Do you prefer to work alone or in a group? Why do you want to purse this career?"
