Sonia Delaunay Abstract Paintings

Lesson One
Day One, Art Start
1. Interactive Painting Electric Prism (1913-1914) by Sonia Delaunay
2. Read "Sonia Delaunay- A Life Of Color" by Cara Manes & Fatina Romas
3. Sonia Delaunay would use common household items to create complex forms and visual interest through the use of design elements (color, shape, line). Some paintings were inspired by images, places, and events around her home town such as "Red Eiffel Tower" Sonia Delaunay was the first female artist to have an exhibition at the Louvre (1964).
2. Look at images or photographs of cultural icons (Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Wat Xieng Khuan) as inspiration when choosing design principles (composition, rhythm, movement)
