HARVEST AUTUMNAL STILL LIFE

Harvest Autumnal Still Life

Learning Targets:

I can... 
  • Create an Autumnal Still Life using techniques learned in class
  • Use line variation (straight, curved, diagonal), shape relation (organic, simple, fragmented), and realistic color (vivid, bright, layered)
  • Make Historical Connections (Cornucopia, Goat Horn, Celebrations) relating to 17th Century Art Movement
  • Define Decorative (ornament made to make something look more attractive)

Lesson One
Day One, Art Start

1. Discuss Differences between Historical References (1) Horn of Plenty- Greek Vase (5th Century), (2) Horn of Amalthea (1508) 5th Century Folklore, and (3) Harvest Cone Thanksgiving Celebration

2.  Read "Orange, Pear, Apple, Bear" by Emily Gravett
3. Decorative- an ornament made to make something look more attractive. Are there any art forms, symbols, and environments that help objects, people, or places appear more attractive?

Lesson Activities:

1. Choose Three Fruits (Apple, Pear, Orange) and Three Vegetables (Corn, Carrot, Pepper) for Autumnal Still Life
2. Use pencil, eraser, and paper to sketch out Autumnal Still Life

Day Two, Art Start

1. Retrieve Still Life Drawing for Assigned Table
2. Study Artistic Styles of Fauvism Artists Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, Jean Metzinger, & Georges Braque



3. Discussion Question "How have famous artists from different art movements incorporated historical references, symbolism, and connections to inspire or influence works of art?

Lesson Activities: 

1. Finish using pencileraser, and paper to sketch out Autumnal Still Life
2. Use black glue to outline pencil lines for a Batik Decorative Look
3. Add oil pastel colors inside of black lines to finish the Harvest Autumnal Still Life

Day Three, Art Start

1. Retrieve Still Life Drawing for Assigned Table
2. Set Up Studio Area (eraser, oil pastel, black glue)

Lesson Activities:

1. Finish using black glue to outline pencil lines for Batik Decorative Look
2. Finish adding oil pastel inside of black lines to finish the Harvest Autumnal Still Life
