THE SCREAM REPRODUCTIONS

Learning Targets

I can...
  • Create a Scream Reproduction using techniques learned in class
  • Use Line (directional, straight, outline), shape (fragmented, corrugated) and color (neutral, warm)
  • Use Design Principles (contrast, balance, movement) and Writing Connections (visual analysis, creative designs, personal representations) to mimic Norwegian Painter Edvard Munch
  • Define Expressionism (personal representation of artists' perspective on life using emotions, expressive lines, and simple images) 

Lesson One
Day One, Art Start 

1. The Scream (1892) by Edvard Munch

2. A Beautiful Day by Rene Van Bierk

3. Reflection of Famous Artist Quote "Edvard Munch once said, No longer shall I paint interiors with men reading and women knitting. I will paint living people who breathe and feel and suffer and love." What do you think he meant by this? 

Lesson Activities 

1. Use artist studies to determine subject matter and personal perspectives
2. Use Rulers, Protractors, and Compass to replicate The Scream by Edvard Much
3. Use drawing techniques to share the emotion of what The Scream is scared of

Day Two, Art Start

1. Retrieve Artist Study: The Scream for Assigned Table 
2. Separation (1896) by Edvard Munch
3. Discussion Questions: "Expressionism- personal representation of artists' perspective on life using emotions, expressive lines, and simple images. Where does Edvard Munch use warm, cool, and neutral colors in his artwork? How does he create contrast with lines and color? Why is the screamer screaming? What clues do you see? How does this painting make you feel?"

Lesson Activities

1. Use drawing techniques for sharing the emotion: fear to explain what The Scream is scared of
2. Use Rulers, Protractors, & Compass to outline pencil lines with Black Sharpie 
3. Use oil pastel to fill in The Scream Reproductions

Day Three, Art Start

1. Retrieve Artist Study: The Scream for Assigned Table
2. Set Up Studio Area (oil pastel, erasers, pencils) 

Lesson Activities

1. Finish using Rulers, Protractors, & Compass to outline pencil lines with Black Sharpie
2. Finish using oil pastel to fill in The Scream Reproductions
3. Add details or make changes to Artist Study: The Scream
