Lesson One
Day One, Art Start
1. Still Life with Apples on Pink Tablecloth (1925) Henri Matisse

3. Discussion Questions "What are some of your favorite fruits? What are your favorite foods? What shadows surround this fruit? Do you like warm weather colors? How many fruits are you going to choose to draw? What colors would you like to use? Where do you go to shop for food? What smells, colors, and sounds come from this place? What do you see in the painting? What do you like or dislike about this painting? What do you think the artist was feeling when he created it? What do they feel when looking at it? Do the colors show an emotion? How do you like these apples? Is there a story that can be told? What is special about your home town?"
Lesson Activities
1. Choose a 12" by 15" Drawing Paper
2. Choose one fruit (apple, pear, orange) to draw the basic shapes (triangle, circle, rectangle, oval) of the oil pastel still life
3. Add horizon line in the background (table, folded drapery, wallpaper) to separate from the foreground
