ODILI DONALD ODITA ABSTRACT ART

 Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art

Learning Targets

I can...

  • Create an original Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art using drawing techniques learned in class
  • Use color combinations (complementary secondary primary), shape variation (free form organic geometric) and space (positive negative) inspired by American Painter (1948-2014) Arthur Eubanks
  • Use painting techniques (overlapping cropping layering) and design principles (composition proportion repetition) based on Abstract Art
  • Define Memory (impressions, idea combinations, and inventive techniques used to draw loosely)

Lesson One
Day One, Art Start

1. Desert Sun (2014) Odili Donald Odita

2. Read Why Is The Sky Far Away: A Nigerian Folk Tale by Mary Joan Gerson

3. Discussion Questions "What does this color reading you of? Did you ever see that color somewhere? What were the circumstances surrounding that encounter? What did it make you think and what did you feel? Odita uses colors to emphasize the complexities of the world. He cannot make a color twice- it can only appear to be the same. This is important because it highlights the specificity of differences that exist in the world of people and things. Where do you see yourself in the conceptual practices and art history? How can we illustrate ourselves within our artwork? Is there a connection between music and the fine arts?"

Lesson Activities

1. Choose 12" X 15" Drawing Paper

2. Draw three line types (contour continuous outline) as a design for the Abstract Art

3. Outline the three line types (contour continuous outline) with white oil pastels for the Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art

Day Two, Art Start

1.  Retrieve Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art for Assigned Tables

2. Future Past (2019) Odili Donald Odita

3. Discussion Questions "What do you see? What does this work of art remind you of? What do you think this work of art is made of? Where would you display this work of art? Why? Does this work follow any design principles? What types of tools do you think were used to make this artwork? Are both of these artworks three dimensional solids? Does Odili Donald Odita use different colors for each artwork? What geometric structures are they based on? How would you describe the pattern? How many faces does it have? What is the space of each face? How many vertices does it have? How many edges does it have? Did his artwork come out as expected?"

Lesson Activities

1. Use drawing techniques (contour line outline) to add basic shapes (geometric organic) to the positive space (foreground) of the abstract art

2. Use drawing techniques (contour line outline) to add basic shapes (geometric organic) to the negative space (background) of the abstract art

Day Three, Art Start

1.  Retrieve Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art for Assigned Tables

2. Step Up Studio Area (chalk oil pastel ruler)

Lesson Activities

1. Use complementary colors (red green; blue orange; purple yellow) to fill in the positive space (foreground) of abstract art

2. Use complementary colors (red green; blue orange; purple yellow) to fill in the negative space (background) of abstract art

3. Add design details (geometric shapes, borders) to the positive space (foreground) of the Odili Donald Odita Abstract Art
