Learning Targets

- Create a Gregory Grenon Portrait using painting techniques learned in class
- Use form (two dimensional, three dimensional), shape (oval, rectangle, square), and value (shadows, highlights) inspired by Michigan Artist (1948-Present) Gregory Grenon
- Use block-in method (figure, gesture, angles) and design principles (composition, balance, gradation) based on Contemporary Art

2. Read Portraits of Artists by Anna Reynolds, Lucy Peter, & Martin Clayton
3. Discussion Questions "What colors do you see? Why do you think the artist choose to use the colors he did? How does the woman in the painting feel? How do the colors help convey this emotion? How was it painted? What conversation could be happening in this image? How is your painting different from Gregory Grenon's artwork? What is your favorite medium for portrait making?"

Above mere beauty, my work is an expression of emotion, and division of the mind. Dream ideas, explanations of love, hate, fear, pride, and sorrow. They are a river of glass. They are the truth."
